La época de Pentecostés es la más larga de las estaciones litúrgicas, el color verde predomina. En este año, 2009, el Domingo de Pentecostés es en mayo 31; luego de ese domingo celebramos los Domingos Después de Pentecostés, que dura hasta el domingo 15 noviembre.

Pentecostés celebra el inicio de una iglesia pública, de una voz que Dios quiere que se escuche en todas las naciones, culturas y hasta el fin del mundo. En nuestro contexto sinodal tenemos por delante la labor de dar a conocer el mensaje de Jesús el Cristo a todo Puerto Rico y a las Islas Vírgenes. La labor sobre nuestros hombros es una abarcadora, exigente y seria.

Abarcadora porque tiene que llegar a muchos rincones caribeños, con distintos lenguajes y culturas diferentes, pero unidas en un mensaje amoroso, el mensaje del evangelio. El evangelio nos invita a que el servicio amoroso se lleve a toda persona, de forma sana y que se entienda y se viva.

Exigente porque el evangelio tiene que ser llevado de forma inteligente, sensible y profunda. La persona luterana vive con intensidad el mensaje que Cristo nos ha dado para predicar y vivir. La persona luterana vive con intensidad el evangelio, lo ejemplifica en su vida y en su vocación.

La seriedad del ente luterano es tal que la persona luterana se exige a sí misma una rigurosidad al transmitir el evangelio, tiene que vivirlo. Es por ello que durante la época de Pentecostés celebramos otras actividades que nos marcan.

El mundo necesita de un mensaje refrescante, renovador y esperanzador. El mensaje del luteranismo contiene esas tres características, ya que transmite, de forma sana el evangelio reconciliador de Jesús, Dios Hijo. Es nuestra tarea el llamar a la reconciliación, en especial en estos momentos dramáticos que vive el mundo, donde la crisis, que no es económica, sino una social. Social porque se abarcan todas las fases de la humanidad.

Que esta época de Pentecostés nos permita volver a encontrarnos con la Palabra Transformadora de Dios. Que la transformación que nos regala Cristo sea una que se transmita de padres a hijas y de madres a hijos, de la comunidad de fe (congregación) a la comunidad social (pueblo) de forma íntegra.

Como Obispo del Sínodo del Caribe de la Iglesia Evangélica Luterana en América exhorto a todas las personas a vivir como Jesús, que seamos los Pequeños Cristos en medio de nuestras sociedades, culturas y pueblos. Que Dios nos siga bendiciendo y fortaleciendo para ejercer nuestro ministerio de la reconciliación.

The time of Pentecost is the longest in the liturgical stations, the green color prevails. In this year, 2009, Sunday of Pentecost is in May 31; after this Sunday, we celebrate the after Pentecost Sundays that lasts until Sunday November 15.

Pentecost celebrates the beginning of a public church, of a voice that God wants to be listened in all the nations, cultures and until the end of the world. In our synod context we have before us, the work of giving to know Jesus' the Christ message to all Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands. The work on our shoulders is a comprehensive, demanding and serious one.

Comprehensive because it has to be taken to many Caribbean corners, with different languages and different cultures, but united in a loving message, the message of the gospel. The gospel invites us to serve all the persons in a loving manner, in a healthy way and that it is understood and lived through our lives.

It is demanding because the gospel has to be taken in an intelligent, sensitive and deep way. The Lutheran person lives with intensity the message that Christ has given us to preach and to live. The Lutheran person lives with intensity the gospel, exemplifies it in their life and in their vocation.

The seriousness of the Lutheran entity is such that the Lutheran person demands itself rigorously when transmitting the gospel, he/she has to live it. This is why we celebrate other activities that mark us during the time of Pentecost.

The world needs of a refreshing, renovating and encouraging message. The message of the Lutheranism contains those three characteristics, since it transmits, in a healthy way Jesus', God’s Son reconciling gospel. It is our task to call to the reconciliation, especially in these dramatic moments that the world lives, where the crisis which is not economic, but a social one. Social, because all the humanity phases are embraced.

It is my hope that the time of Pentecost allows us to meet again with the Transforming Word of God. That the transformation that Christ gives us could be transmitted from parents to daughters and of mothers to children, from the community of faith (congregation) to the social community (country) in an entire way.

As Bishop of the Caribbean Synod of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, I exhort all the persons to live as Jesus, that we be the Small Christ’s amid our societies, cultures and countries. May God continue blessing and strengthening us to exercise our reconciliation ministry.
